I have had the saddest news that Sprinkles has passed away in her adoptive home. 

This has been very sudden and unexplained and has been a devastating shock to both me and her adopter.

Sprinkles came into the rescue over the summer and quickly became a big character here. She really settled and her little personality bloomed. She recovered well from her mite infestation and being blind didn't stop her enjoying the garden and her veggies. She had quite a personality.

Her bonding was going well in her new home and she was settled and eating well. There were no signs that anything was wrong.

I am pleased that she came into rescue and had a little while of peace, comfort and joy. I am also pleased that she did find her forever home and was loved.

I just wish she had had longer. 

RIP Sprinkles. Such a special little guinea pig.

It’s been an expensive week at North East Guinea Pig Rescue.

Three of our recent intakes have needed veterinary care.

Lola has had surgery to remove a large growth, costing over £200. Gingersnap is currently on supportive care, while Peanut was seen because he was unusually lethargic for his age. No physical cause has been identified for Peanut at this stage, so he is being monitored closely.

With consultations now costing £67 per guinea pig, plus surgery, treatment, medication, fuel and the time involved in travelling to appointments and caring for poorly guinea pigs, the costs quickly add up.

There are currently fewer adoptions because several of our guinea pigs have ongoing health needs and there are very few home offers, so donations are also lower.

I am trying to raise £360 towards this week’s vet bills.

All support is greatly appreciated and helps me to continue saying yes to guinea pigs in need, especially those requiring urgent veterinary assessment and treatment.
